Readout of Chairman Dempsey's Phone Call with Republic of Korea Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Adm. Choi Yoon-Hee

Joint Staff Public Affairs Officer Capt. Greg Hicks provided the following readout:

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey called Republic of Korea (ROK) Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Adm. Choi Yoon-Hee at 6 p.m. EDT on 21 August. Chairman Dempsey reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the United States to the defense of the ROK and reiterated the strength of the U.S.-ROK Alliance. Dempsey and Choi concurred they would watch North Korea's actions closely in the coming days, and would ensure that the U.S. and ROK continue to work closely with one another to deter further North Korean provocations and defuse tensions.
