Secretary Carter hosted Brazilian Minister of Defense Jaques Wagner today at the Pentagon to discuss the U.S.-Brazilian defense relationship ahead of President Obama's meeting with Brazilian President Rousseff tomorrow at the White House. Secretary Carter commended Brazil's contributions to peacekeeping operations in Africa and around the world and discussed ways that the U.S. and Brazil can continue to collaborate in support of international partners. Secretary Carter and Minister Wagner discussed the importance of deepening trade and defense technology cooperation noting opportunities for future co-development and co-production. They also discussed the recent ratification of the defense cooperation agreement and general security of military information agreement by the Brazilian Congress as signs of deepening cooperation between the U.S. and Brazilian military. Finally, Secretary Carter and Minister Wagner discussed security preparations for next year's Olympics. Minister Wagner invited Secretary Carter to visit Brazil ahead of the games. Secretary Carter looks forward to his returning to Brasilia in the future.
